Ranelagh Primary School

Pitch Perfect Poetry

Once again Ranelagh was packed full for our annual Choral Performance Poetry. On Wednesday 29th March, children from across the school each performed a piece of performance poetry in a what one parent described as "the best show in town!"

Every year group was tasked with choosing a poem to perform aloud. With so many choices out there, it was tough to narrow it down. Year 5 opened the show with a haunting rendition of Alfred Noyes' The Highwayman, setting the bar high right from the off. Thunderous applause greeted the children as they finished and parents enjoyed the musical interludes from our very own Ranelagh choir, who sang tunes throughout the show, from 'Ain't No Mountain High Enough' to the classic 'Video Killed the Radio Star' by the Buggles.

Year 1 and 4 were next, entertaining parents and teachers alike with amazing tributes to Roger Mcgough's What I LOVE About School and Ted Hughes Mice Are Funny Little Creatures. Year 2 then reminded us about the importance of the suffragettes, performing Benjamin Zephaniahs Voices for Choices. Not wanting to be left out, Year 3 also performed a Benjamin Zephaniah poem, titled Ghost Teacher, before Reception and Nursery got in the act, performing their favourite nursery rhymes. Year 6 then capped off an epic show, with a brilliant production of Lewis Carroll's The Jabberwocky.

The Ranelagh community couldn't praise the children enough. "It was great to see our children perform. Thank you very much for all your hard work," one parent commented, with another adding, "absolutely brilliant! I would love to see a show like this every week!" Mrs. Lawrenson, Acting Head Teacher, was equally impressed and led the standing ovations. "We believe that our children deserve the very best and should take part in a variety different learning opportunities," she concluded, "and drama and performance poetry is just one of them. The children were simply amazing." To view more photos from the show please click here.
