Year 3 Trip to Kew Gardens

Year 3 had a brilliant time stepping into the tropical warmth of Kew Gardens last week! As part of their rainforest topic, the children explored the steamy Palm House to see exotic plants up close. They re-enacted scenes from The Shaman's Apprentice right among the lush green foliage. A class treasure hunt kept everyone busy hunting for famous trees and unusual leaves. The children loved spotting pepper plants growing on vines and giant bamboo towering above them.

They were amazed to see rubber trees and find out how their sap is collected. It was a huge surprise to learn just how many everyday foods come from rainforest plants. Children also discovered how vital tropical plants are for making life-saving medicines. During the tour, children asked brilliant questions about climate change and protecting our planet. Walking through the warm mist really made everyone feel like proper jungle explorers for the day. The trip truly brought their classroom learning to life in the most exciting way.
