SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSHHHHHHH! - Conversation Club is on

Libraries open doors to a world of information and imagination

Long gone are the days of 'Quiet please ' and a bespectacled lady dressed in tweed shushing people in the library. Now, it’s an exciting place where you can not only take out the latest newly released books, but you can take part in a range of exciting clubs such as Story telling, Computer coding and Move It to Music.

At Ranelagh , we absolutely believe in the power of reading and that reading should be free for all . Ranelagh has had a close relationship with Newham libraries , they have been involved in the Summer Reads and The Winter reads that happen over the school holidays.Ranelagh have opened the Christmas festivities for Stratford library and remain committed to that a library provides  .

We now are making sure that each child in our school has a library card.

Each Year group will venture to the library - already Year 1 and Year 3 have  their card and have started talking about  the books they are going to take out. “I love the range of non-fiction that is there . In RC, we are learning about different inventions , I was able to take home a book on Benjamin Banneker and learn even more interesting facts,” said one child . Teyana from year 3 was so excited to borrow her first lot of books and held them against her heart all the way back to school . She said “ I can’t wait to read these books”

The library staff ,Deborah and Samina, were both very helpful and gave the children a wonderful tour of Stratford library . Year  1 were looking forward to their visit. Mrs Afshan , Year 1 lead , said,

" The children thoroughly enjoyed their first visit where they had an opportunity to join the library and find out what is on offer so they can return with their family. The children had a tour around the library .They’ve also borrowed their favourite book from the library to read and share with their families."

Ranelagh’s English lead, Ms Scott, is a former librarian and organised this programme. She said , “ The libraries in Newham have a vast selection of books so this is a brilliant opportunity for children to borrow different books from the ones we have in school.”

If your child has not yet registered at a Newham library , please do take them and let them immerse themselves in to the wonderful world of books.Click here for the closest library in your area
