  • Kings and Queens in waiting...

    Published 21/03/24

Year 4s headed to the Tower of London last week to discover the Terrible Tudors in action. The children were taken back in history and took part in some of the enactments that paved the monarchy we know today. They learnt about the famous figures in the Tudor era from Henry VIII and his six wives to Lady Latimer who was able to tell the  children about her best friend Katherine Parr and her woeful tale!

Not satisfied with this, the children also ventured into the Tower  where they were able to see the magnificent crown jewels that Kings and Queens both past and present have worn. Unfortunately, they were not able to wear these, although we are sure Mrs Zaman and Mr Williams must have made a valiant attempt to do so!

It was a thoroughly, enjoyable day and we know that our year 4s will be able to name many of the wives of King Henry. Go on to test them!

  • No Geeks here!!

    Published 19/03/24

Einstein, Darwin, Hawkings and now 5T9 - What on earth do they all have in common? Yes they are all scientists who have and can change the world!

Our Year 5s were specially selected by the RAF ( Royal Air Force) to visit their museum and take part in a range of activities around the exciting world of satellites. The pressure was on as the children were tasked with the challenge of landing their satellite designs safely on Earth. They had to take into account a number of factors including air resistance, heat and gravity and all the while make sure their satellite didn’t crash to the ground!

They held their breaths as the satellites made their journeys to Earth and although tense at times and with their hearts in their mouths …  it was a thrilling and a much remembered experience!

  • Art tells the Story- Ranelagh Teams up with V&A East

    Published 07/03/24

In 2025 , the V&A is coming to Stratford and Ranelagh could not be more excited. Year 5 children were asked to collaborate on an art project with the museum and Arts Matters . Mrs Bahra , Ranelagh's Art Lead, enthusiastically agreed.

On 6th March,  Year 5 pupils - Romilly, Anastasia, Luana, Shabiha, Martin and Aaliyah -  visited Ellen Wilkinson School to take part in 'Our Stories...'  each of the children demonstrated their family stories through art
They brought their own materials to tell their story.
Can you spot the 'A Child's Beach Dream'  or our budding fashion designer of the future, who designed her own T.shirt.
'I asked Luana to tell me the story of her artwork ,' said Miss Monya, 'and there, with every layer of fabric and ruched linen, a story enfolded of Luana's family history which took us back to São Tomé and Príncipe . Luanna's pride in this was wonderful to hear. '
As you can see by the photos, all the children have amazing stories to tell.

  • Mental Health Week at Ranelagh

    Published 09/02/24

Throughout Mental Health Week (6th-9th February), Staff and children pulled out all the stops to make sure everyone at Ranelagh felt mentally supported.

From Assemblies to Voice boxes, children were given every opportunity to talk about good mental health. We created safe spaces in the playground for children to talk about things that made them sad or uncomfortable by having workshops run by the Wellness in Newham Schools (WINS) Lead.

    image2.jpeg

We learnt that it was okay to feel worried, but how we deal with this emotion is much more important.By talking openly about our mental health, we were able to challenge the stereotypes and reduce the stigma around poor mental health.

We know that Ranelagh truly is  a school that promotes kindness, empathy and inclusion. What a great place to work and learn!

  • Year 5 Mosque Visit

    Published 05/02/24

As part of their RE studies about Islam, Year 5 visited Anjuman-e-Islamia Mosque in Newham to explore the place of worship and find  how people of a Muslim faith use this building to practise their faith. The children and staff were fascinated to see the mosque's beautiful architecture with islamic patterns and calligraphy artwork.  Due to Covid 19, the children did not visit the mosque as planned in their RE Curriculum.

Alishba stated “ We watched the Imam pray and listened to a short talk about the key areas in the mosque, It was brilliant!”

Martin stated “ The mosque was beautifully designed and  it was very peaceful inside, I will never forget this trip”.

At Ranelagh, we believe that trips to Places of Worship are important in developing children's knowledge, tolerance and respect for others from different faiths, as we prepare our children to live and work in the multicultural world in which we live.

  • Mental Health Week at Ranelagh!

    Published 01/02/24

There are times when we all feel the strain, when things feel overwhelming.  As parents/carers and teachers, there are many ways in which we can help ourselves and our children to stay emotionally healthy.

At Ranelagh Primary , we will once again be celebrating Children's Mental Health Week from 5th-11th February 2024. This year's theme will be ‘ My voice Matters.’

During the week, we will be encouraging the children (and adults!) to consider how they have grown emotionally  and what they can do to  help each other to grow and adapt- despite the challenges and setbacks we may face. We will talk about how we can try new things which may often be out of our comfort zone , making us more resilient and to help us make the right choices.

On Friday 9th February 2024, we will celebrate mental healthiness by dressing up in a fun way which allows us to express ourselves!

So let's ditch that uniform and dig out those dotty dresses, Jazzy Jumpers and Wacky Wigs and use this opportunity to express the wonderful you.

You matter and your voice matters!

If you would like further information about how to help your children  at home see https://parentingsmart.place2be.org.uk/

  • Holocaust Memorial Day

    Published 30/01/24

Last Friday, some of the year 6 children took part in a special event at East Ham Town Hall - the Holocaust Memorial Day. The event commemorated the 6 million Jews murdered during the Holocaust, alongside the millions of other people killed under Nazi persecution of other groups, and in more recent genocides in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia and Darfur.

Children have learnt that each year across the UK, thousands of people come together to learn more about the past and take action to create a safer future.

'I have really enjoyed the trip, so memorable and touching,' said Joshua.

  • Every Child a Theatre Goer

    Published 26/01/24

On Wednesday, Year 6 walked to their nearest theatre, Stratford East, to see ,'A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings'. Inspired by Gabriel García Márquez’s story, this is a startling world of ruined beauty and magical reality where everyone dreams of their five minutes of fame and riches, and the extraordinary takes flight. Acted by miniature puppets, Aranaya of 6T5 said the story was about an angel who fell to earth and became an attraction for many people. 'It was an interesting play and the ending made you think.'

Going to a theatre to see a live performance is an expensive venture for many. This is why Ranelagh jumped at the chance for their Year 6 to experience it.

' I'm lucky enough to have been to the theatre before, but for others who haven't, this would inspire them to see more.'
