Holocaust Memorial Day

Last Friday, some of the year 6 children took part in a special event at East Ham Town Hall - the Holocaust Memorial Day. The event commemorated the 6 million Jews murdered during the Holocaust, alongside the millions of other people killed under Nazi persecution of other groups, and in more recent genocides in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia and Darfur.

Children have learnt that each year across the UK, thousands of people come together to learn more about the past and take action to create a safer future.

'I have really enjoyed the trip, so memorable and touching,' said Joshua.

Every Child a Theatre Goer

On Wednesday, Year 6 walked to their nearest theatre, Stratford East, to see ,'A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings'. Inspired by Gabriel García Márquez’s story, this is a startling world of ruined beauty and magical reality where everyone dreams of their five minutes of fame and riches, and the extraordinary takes flight. Acted by miniature puppets, Aranaya of 6T5 said the story was about an angel who fell to earth and became an attraction for many people. 'It was an interesting play and the ending made you think.'

Going to a theatre to see a live performance is an expensive venture for many. This is why Ranelagh jumped at the chance for their Year 6 to experience it.

' I'm lucky enough to have been to the theatre before, but for others who haven't, this would inspire them to see more.'
